ADE develops strong in house expertise and references in working on Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations.
We have four strategic axes of intervention in this area:
- We conduct thematic, country and programme evaluations
- We undertake analytical studies
- We develop practical tools and guidance
- We actively participate to conferences
At the crossroads of these areas, we develop a pool of expertise - involving internal expertise and international and national experts - and work in partnership with companies, universities, think tanks, organizations, etc. to ensure the relevance and quality of our interventions.

1. Evaluations
We specialize in evaluations that inform and guide our clients in their strategic choices and interventions in fragile contexts, namely in:
- Thematic and programme evaluations of peace-building and state-building support efforts; and
- Country-level evaluations in post-conflict and/or fragile settings.
In all these reviews, we take the context as a é point, and ensure that the evaluation activities "Do No Harm".

2. Analytical studies
We provide outstanding research-led work on conflict, fragility and security issues. It is worth noting that ADE provided in 2010 a conceptual and methodological breakthrough to understand the notion of the integrated approach for conflict prevention and peace building (CPPB) and evaluate its implementation. ADE successfully used this framework in several evaluations it carried out.

3. Practical tools and guidance
ADE is implementing large methodological support and training programmes for European Commission staff. We notably develop internal guidance and training courses at headquarters and in EU Delegations.

4. Conferences
We actively participate to international seminars and conferences with a view to share experiences with other practitioners on fragility and conflict issues.
