Support Measures in Strengthening Capacity of CSOs

Since economic booms of Thailand (1977-1997), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have shifted from service delivery development NGOs to groups organizing environmental protests and campaigns. Civil society also began to play a role in organizing grassroots awareness of, participation in, and resistance to centrally planned and executed development projects. Whereas inclusive participation of CSOs in developing the country''''''''s development policies is limited, implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Thailand is perceived as a common goal and agreed framework under which CSOs and other stakeholders will establish a constructive collaboration contributing to the achievements of these goals. The global objective of the assignment is to support local CSOs’ contributions to Thailand development process through governance, public accountability, and promotion of inclusive policy-making, with a view to contribute to poverty reduction and the attainment of SDGs. Specific objectives are to provide technical assistance in strengthening capacity of CSOs to be more efficient in participating in country’s development process in attaining Thailand’s Sustainable Development Goals particularly in the context of the EU CSOs Roadmap for the benefit of CSOs communities in Thailand at large. To achieve the established objectives, the technical assistance and strategic support to be provided consist of three main components: i) review of CSOs working environment to identify their needs for supports; ii) development of the workplan on supporting the CSOs; and iii) implementation of the workplan.
