The ESPON 2013 Programme has a budget of 47 million EUR of which 75 percent is co-financed by the ERDF (under Objective 3, European Territorial Cooperation). The remainder is funded by 31 countries participating, 27 EU Member States and Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The mission of ESPON is to support policy development in relation to the aim of territorial cohesion and a harmonious development of European territory. Scientific platform and tools: comparable regional data, analytical tools and scientific support; 4. Awareness raising, empowerment and involvement: capacity building, dialogue and networking; 5. Communication and technical/analytical assistance The aim of the evaluation was to draw conclusions on the effectiveness of ESPON and provide recommendations for improvement.
