Mid term Evaluation of Better Work and Standards Programme (BEST)

The European Union (EU) is one of the largest donors in Bangladesh in trade related technical assistance, which is fully justified both by the importance of the trade sector for the country’s growth and by the fact that the EU is Bangladesh’s largest trading partner. The overall objective of Better Work and Standards (BEST) Programme is to contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction by supporting Bangladesh in taking advantage of global market opportunities. The Programme’s purpose is to improve competitiveness and facilitate export growth and diversification through increased productivity and the compliance of the production base with international norms and practices. The components under BEST are: (1) Better Quality Infrastructure, (2) Better Fisheries Quality, and (3) Better Work in Textiles and Garments. The main objective of this particular project was to: *conduct a Mid-Term Evaluation of the BEST Programme to review project progress, *check results against targets, *provide a clear and concise opinion as to how the project has arrived at its current position and *make recommendations regarding the course of actions to be taken until the end of implementation as well as identify areas of intervention for the EU Delegation based on the lessons learnt under BEST programme.
