Technical Capacity to support the work of the vision group enhancing EU-Indonesia Trade and Investment relations
When the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with the EC President José Manuel Barroso in December 2009 they discussed ways of enhancing our bilateral ties. To this purpose, the two leaders decided to set up a "Vision Group" that examined how to increase trade and investment between Indonesia and the EU. The expected output of this joint work was a strategic paper (the Vision) containing recommendations to Ministers (including on the potential for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement). This strategic paper was drafted by a small Group that carried out the work and reported back to the Trade Ministries with recommendations. This Group was constituted by eminent persons from both sides consisting of members of the respective Governments, business and academia.
It was expected that such a group with broad representation from both sides ensured proper co-ordination and achievement of consensus as a basis for formulating trade policy actions between the EU and Indonesia. The work of the Vision Group was supported by the EU-Indonesia Project Group. The EU-Indonesia Project Group consisted of representatives from the EC and the Indonesian Ministry of Trade. The Project Group worked under the guidance of the Vision Group and had:
1. Arranged and coordinated all logistics and ensured reports of meetings.
2. Provided relevant input for the Vision Group discussions. This includes primarily relevant trade and investment data and analysis, and existing studies
3. Synthesised the discussions and the views of the Vision Group in a draft report, which has been endorsed by the Vision Group.
The Specific Objectives of the mission was to facilitate a good functioning of the work of the Vision Group and the fulfilment of its objectives by supporting the EU-Indonesia Project Group
