Rapid assessment of the status of implementation of and future support needs to implement the national strategy for the development of statistics

Strengthening public finance management (PFM) and increasing capacity for evidence-based development planning can make a critical contribution towards Lesotho’s efforts to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development. In recognition of this important intervention, the Government of Lesotho has prepared a multi-donor Public Finance Management Reform Action Plan (PFM RAP) that will form the basis of all PFM interventions over the short- to medium- term and will serve as a basis for evaluation of progress. Project preparation is well under way and being developed; however, assistance was required in the defining of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS). Strengthening the management of statistics and performance data collection systems was seen as a priority reform platform required to facilitate PFM reforms. This assignment was performed under the Poverty Reduction Budget Support Programme, Phase II (PRBSII) and aimed at contributing to the implementation of Lesotho's national development agenda, by assessing the NSDS.
